Press Release - "The Hi-Fi Connection"

I’ve always enjoyed recording acoustic instruments. Their organic nature offers some special challenges that their electric counterparts don’t present. The goal is to capture the true sound of the instruments with such clarity  that you not only hear the instrument, but you feel the air around it. When that goal is achieved, the listener experiences a performance - real players, playing real music - like the band is right there in the room.

Obsessive by nature, I always strive to make each recording better than the last, constantly raising the bar. So I was delighted to learn recently that the Audiophile community - makers and sellers of Hi-Fi audio equipment - had embraced several recordings I made with bassist Brian Bromberg for Artistry Music as “reference recordings”. Imagine... the watchdogs of sonic excellence had chosen our records to demonstrate the superiority of their products.

Most notable of these is “Wood”, recorded in 2000 and re-released in 2003 as a 5.1 Surround DVD. The original release was awarded “Best Recording” by Japan’s prestigious Swing Journal, and has since become a regular at Hi-Fi trade shows, stereo showrooms, and fanatic websites.

“Wow! What a disc....a torrent of good music on this extremely well recorded CD.”

“ ‘Wood’... is an excellent recording. The tone of the acoustic bass is rich and deep.
                   - H. Courtenay Osborne, The Stereo Times

“Incredibly deep tight bass. Truly great sound.”

Another fan favorite - “Jaco”, recorded in 2001, and released in 5.1 Surround a year later, was nominated for “Best DVD Audio” at the 2003 IRMA DVD Awards.

“Bass extension was of audiophile quality, as demonstrated by Brian Bromberg's ‘Jaco’.”
            - Michael Fremer, UltimateAVmag.com

“....we felt as if Brian was jamming in the room right in front of us.”
- Clint DeBoer, Audioholics.com

And 2007’s “Downright Upright” garnered a Grammy  nomination for “Best Contemporary Jazz” that season.

“I have never said ‘Wow’ so many times in my life. I played ‘Cantaloupe Island’ from Bromberg's ‘Downright Upright’ CD. The band was in the room!”
                                                                              - Audioholics reader post

In short, I am very pleased. I guess we’re doing something right!
